High Tunnels
A high tunnel is a single-span, film-covered structure for protected cropping that is usually simpler than a fully glazed commercial greenhouse. Many tunnels start with roll-up sides and natural ventilation; active exhaust fans, cooling pads and circulation fans are added when the crop or climate needs more control. ClimaSpan can quote that climate equipment when openings are known—not the tunnel frame or film. Structure details are confirmed on the quotation via [email protected].
Structure features
- Typically single-span arches with agricultural film covering.
- Roll-up or drop-down sidewalls for passive air exchange are common.
- Simpler than multi-span glass or polycarbonate commercial houses; often used for seasonal protected cropping.
- End walls can be prepared for exhaust fans when active ventilation is required.
Suitable climate
- Widely used in temperate regions to extend seasons and shelter crops from rain and wind.
- In hot weather, passive side vents may not be enough; growers may add exhaust fans and, where suitable, evaporative pads.
- In cool seasons, tunnels may use passive covers and separate heating plans — heating equipment is outside this page’s product list.
- Describe your climate and whether the tunnel is seasonal or year-round so we can suggest realistic equipment.
Covering materials
- Agricultural greenhouse film over hoop or gothic arches as specified by the tunnel supplier.
- Baseboards, film locks and end-wall framing per the structure kit.
- Optional shade cloth or insect netting may be added by the grower; not listed as ClimaSpan products here.
- Film grade and tunnel kit dimensions come from the structure supplier — not from a ClimaSpan price list on this page.
Selection notes
ClimaSpan supplies greenhouse climate equipment (exhaust fans, evaporative cooling pads and circulation fans). Frame and covering details for your structure are confirmed with your project team. We do not publish a public price list or catalogue-spec sheet on this page.
- Send tunnel length, width, height, sidewall style and location.
- Say whether you want only circulation, exhaust fans, or a pad-and-fan option.
- We recommend what fits and quote by project.
Companion climate systems
Exhaust Fans
Wall-mounted fans that remove warm, humid air and create negative pressure for pad-and-fan or vent layouts.
Cooling Pads
Evaporative pads that cool incoming air when paired with exhaust fans.
Circulation Fans
Fans that move air inside the house so temperature and humidity stay more even.
Other greenhouse structures
Glass Greenhouses
Rigid glass-clad commercial and research houses.
Polycarbonate Greenhouses
PC-panel houses balancing light and insulation.
Film Greenhouses
Plastic-film single-span and multi-span houses.
Frequently asked questions
Is a high tunnel the same as a greenhouse?
High tunnels are a type of protected structure, usually single-span and film-covered. Commercial greenhouses may be multi-span with glass, polycarbonate or film and more complete climate systems.
Do I always need exhaust fans on a high tunnel?
Not always. Many tunnels start with roll-up sides. Active exhaust fans are considered when passive ventilation cannot meet summer targets. We review your climate and dimensions before recommending fans.
Can evaporative cooling pads be used on a high tunnel?
They can be considered when one end is prepared as an inlet pad wall and the opposite end has exhaust fans. Suitability depends on outdoor humidity and how the tunnel is framed.
How do I ask for a climate equipment quote?
Email [email protected] with tunnel size, location and whether sides roll up.
